About Me
Hi, I’m Meg Niblett — a 26-year-old professional offshore sailor, charter skipper, and dedicated sailing coach. Born in the UK and now based in Sydney, I’ve spent the past decade pursuing a life at sea, combining my love for adventure, competition, and mentorship.
I specialise in private coaching for inshore and offshore sailing — helping everyone from new sailors to intermediate sailors grow in confidence, ability, and independence on the water.
My Journey
I began my sailing journey racing RS Fevas and Lasers in the UK, later representing at national level and competing in international events like the Mediterranean Laser Championship and F18 regattas in France. From there, my path naturally progressed into offshore sailing and racing — driven by a desire to explore, push boundaries, and live a life connected to the ocean.
Since 2020, I’ve raced in landmark events such as the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race (2021), Rolex Fastnet Race(2023), and numerous coastal and offshore series across Australia and Europe. I've held key positions including bow, main trimmer, and driver on boats such as the Swan 65, Murray 42, Farr 40, Figaro, and McConaghy 38.
Coaching & Instruction
My coaching style is hands-on, practical, and tailored to each individual sailor. With over 8 years of experience as an RYA certified instructor, I’ve taught sailing, windsurfing, and surf instruction across the Mediterranean, UK and Australia. I’ve also worked as a instructor for Flying Fish Sailing School, delivering everything from NSW boat licence courses to dinghy, keelboat, and yacht training.
Whether you’re preparing for your first offshore race, building confidence for a solo passage, or looking to refine inshore racing techniques, my coaching focuses on real-world seamanship, safety, and the ability to think like a skipper — not just a crew member.
Offshore Experience
From 2021–2023, I served as First Mate and Co-Manager of a Swan 65 charter business, logging over 20,000 nautical miles during a circumnavigation from Sydney to the UK via Indonesia, the Indian Ocean, Suez Canal, and Mediterranean. During this time, I co-ran ocean passage charters, trained crew for offshore racing, managed maintenance, and skippered deliveries — including multiple two-handed and short-handed offshore passages.
Key passages and roles include:
First Mate, Swan 65 – Charter and racing program (2021–2023)
Skipper, First 40 – Offshore delivery Hobart to Sydney with an inexperienced crew (2024)
Coach, Offshore training for novice sailors converting to ocean-ready crew
Bowman & Driver, Sydney to Hobart 2021, Fastnet 2023, and Australian offshore series
Delivery Crew, Biscay crossing on an X-Yacht 38 and multiple global deliveries on the Swan 65
Why I Coach
Sailing has changed my life — not just as a sport, but as a way to grow, adapt, and connect with the world. It teaches patience, resilience, leadership, and humility. And while the industry can seem exclusive or intimidating from the outside, I’m committed to showing that anyone can learn to sail, race, and thrive offshore with the right support.
Through coaching, I aim to demystify the world of yachting and make it more accessible, inclusive, and empowering. Whether you're stepping aboard for the first time or looking to level up for your next ocean race, I’ll help you build the skills, mindset, and confidence to take the helm.
